Diabetic Foot

Complications affecting the diabetic foot are common in people with Diabetes mellitus and can arise from a combination of nerve damage and reduced circulation. Loss of sensation from Diabetic neuropathy means minor injuries or pressure points may go unnoticed, while poor blood flow can delay healing and increase the risk of infection and ulceration. Without appropriate treatment, these problems can progress to serious complications affecting the bones and joints of the foot. Early assessment and specialist management are essential, focusing on pressure relief, wound care, infection control and maintaining good foot function. In some cases, surgical intervention may be required to correct deformity, treat infection or help prevent limb-threatening complications.
